REGIONAL ASTRONOMICAL SUMMER SCHOOL IS OFFICIALLY OPEN
September 2, 2019 was the official opening of the Regional Astronomical Summer School on Space Sciences and Technologies at Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO).
The opening ceremony of the school was hosted by BAO director Areg Mickaelian and was attended by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA) Radik Martirosyan, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Physics and Astrophysics of NAS RA Radik Kostanyan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, Head of Military-Industrial Committee Avetik Kerobyan, Chair of Civil Aviation Committee Tatevik Revazyan, Permanent Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna (and at UNOOSA & UN COPUOS) Mariam Amatuni Blab, scientists and lecturers Alain Sarkissian and Mustapha Meftah from LATMOS, UVSQ, France.
The speakers of the first day were the Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, the Head of Military-Industrial Committee Avetik Kerobyan, the Deputy Minister of the High-Tech Industry Gegham Vardanyan, BAO director Areg Mickaelian and BAO Scientific Secretary Elena Nikoghosyan.
The Regional Astronomical Summer School will last till September 6. It aims at attracting beginner astronomers and related MSc and PhD students to the field of space sciences research and technologies, teaching the principles of scientific work.

- Space flights, astronautics/cosmonautics

- Earth observations, remote sensing
Among the organizers and sponsors of the Regional Astronomical Summer School are Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO), IAU South West and Central Asian Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (SWCA ROAD), IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Committee of Science, Viktor Ambartsumian International Science Prize, European Space Agency (ESA), European Erasmus+ program, Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS), and Armenian Virtual Observatory (ArVO).
